SMITHVILLE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY
4, 6 & 8 CYLINDER DEMOLITION DERBY

The Demolition Derby is designed as an unusual spectator attraction. Each and every entrant is subject to the following rules, as set forth, in the interest of safety and equal competition. The Smithville Agricultural Society does not imply or guarantee safety.

YOU MUST SIGN THE ENTRY FORM TO SHOW THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD ALL THE RULES AND REGULATIONS AND THAT YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES.

EVENT RULES: The following are grounds for disqualification:breaching the barrier perimeter; ignoring the flagman's directions; non-compliance with regulations and rules; the use of alcohol; hitting a competitor's driver's door; verbal abuse of officials or flagman; fighting on the fairgrounds; in the case of a vehicle fire, the official decides the disqualification.

PROTESTS:$25.00 must accompany each protest and must be submitted before the start of the event. If the car is found to be illegal by the officials, the fee will be returned. Smithville Agricutural Society officials may protest any car at any time without a fee. Officials reserve the right to alter program and purse structure at any time. 

DO NOT: bring your car to the show location until the pit gate opens at 4:00 p.m. Officials reserve the right to close the pit gate one hour prior to show time if enough cars have entered to make a complete show.

DRIVER'S ENTRY:
1. You must hold a valid driver's license and be sixteen years of age or older.
2. Only one assigned driver to a car; no switching drivers.
3. You must wear clean long-sleeved apparel when in competition (coveralls are recommended).
4. Each driver must wear some form of eye protection.
5.
You must fill out and mail an entry form as instructed.

CONDUCT: Any driver or crew member not obeying the rules will be disqualified. Drivers are responsible for their actions and their crew members. All competition rules are described at the mandatory drivers' meeting prior to the Derby and on the rule sheet.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE PROHIBITED IN THE INFIELD AND PIT AREA.
VIOLATIONS BY ANY CREW MEMBER OR DRIVER MEANS DISQUALIFICATION OF THE CAR.
ALL INJURIES MUST BE REPORTED TO THE OFFICIALS AT ONCE.
Only drivers, mechanics and crew members who sign the release sheet will be permitted in the pit area.

1. For four-cylinder compact class, any hardtop automobile or station wagon is allowed except the following: no all-wheel or four-wheel drive cars will be permitted.
2. For the six-cylinder and eight-cylinder class, any hardtop automobile or station wagon is allowed from 1980 and newer. No all-wheel or four- wheel drive cars will be permitted.
3. NO TRUCKS, CONVERTIBLES, JEEPS, VANS, HEARSES, LIMOUSINES OR SMART CARS.
4. Vehicle must have VIN number visible upon inspection.

COMPETITION RULES
1. No deliberate hitting of the driver's door. Official's discretion on being disqualified.
2. No deliberate head-on collisions at high speed.
3. All four brakes must be in full working order.
4. The 20 second count limit between hard competitive hits will be enforced. Soft hits will not be counted and the count will not be reset. Exceeding the 20 second time limit will result in disqualification.
5. Any vehicle sandbagging will be disqualified - period.
6. Any observed loss of helmet or release of seat belt (intentional or unintentional) will result in automatic disqualification.
7. No double-teaming. Anyone caught will be disqualified.
8. Cars must be driven professionally and responsibly at all times when not in competition. Operating in a manner which endangers the safety of others will result in removal from the grounds by the police and a lifetime ban from all future events.
9. There will be no fighting or horseplay with other competitors. Do not approach any official during the course of an event when cars are competing.
10. Cars on fire will be disqualified. However, at his discretion, the official may allow the driver to restart if it was a carburetor fire. If the fire restarts, the car will be disqualified.
11. You will be disqualified if you ignore the instructions of an official or a flagman. If you refuse to stop, the race will be stopped and you will be required to evacuate the car. Refusal to do so will result in your removal from the grounds by the police and lifetime banishment from all future events.
12. Signals and rules will be explained by officials at the drivers' meeting. Hand signals for driver door hits and other situations will be disclosed at the drivers' meeting.

DISPUTES: All disputes will be handled by the Officials. Officials' decisions are final.

****ENVIRONMENTAL RULE: ALL ANTIFREEZE MUST BE DRAINED, FLUSHED & REPLACED WITH WATER BEFORE ENTERING THE FAIRGROUNDS. AIR CONDITIONING UNITS &/OR ALL REFRIGERANT MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE ENTERING THE FAIRGROUNDS.

VEHICLE RULES AND REQUIREMENTS      Click here for a printable copy of the Vehicle Requirements

Any vehicle previously used in a demolition derby and considered to be unsafe will not be allowed to run in competition.
Official has final call.
BATTERY: Must be covered with a quality, non-flammable cover or box installed in a secure location. *** BATTERY MUST BE SECURELY FASTENED PREFERABLY IN A STEEL BRACKET BOLTED ONTO THE PASSENGER FLOOR ***. No milk crates or ratchet-style straps or bungee cords fastening battery to floor will be permitted. One twelve-volt CAR BATTERY only. No heavy equipment batteries will be allowed.
BRAKES: All cars must have four full operating brakes on all four wheels. No cutting or pinching brake lines.
BUMPERS: Bumpers may not be reinforced and must be stock on that vehicle for that year. Bumper ends may be cut off or bent in. No special bumpers. If bumpers are removed, remove any remaining spear-like objects from vehicle.
DIFFERENTIALS: Locked or welded differentials will be allowed.
DOORS: Doors must be painted white. Must be chained or wired shut. No solid welded doors. Four strands of wire around door pillar will be mandatory but not more than four will be allowed. It is strongly recommended that the driver's door and passenger door be reinforced outside with flat bar not exceeding ten inches in width. Flat bar may be bolted with no more than four half-inch bolts and welded one inch every twelve inches of material lengthwise. NO C Channel or angle iron or half cut pipe will be permitted on outside of doors. One cross brace going from door pillar to door pillar behind the driver's seat will be permitted to reinforce the driver's seat from coming back. No tying the support bar to the frame of the vehicle.
ENGINE: Must be stock and on original motor mounts for the make, model and year of that vehicle.
EXHAUST SYSTEMS: Pipes may be in stock formation or must be straight up through the hood. Pipes may not be aimed towards other cars or drivers. Excessively smoking cars will be disqualified.
FAN BLADES: All metal fan blades for cars must be removed. Only electric fans or no fans will be permitted.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS: All cars must be equipped with a dry chemical fire extinguisher (with gauge) that is within reach of driver.
FIREWALL: The firewall dividing the engine and the driver's compartment must be intact. A hole may be cut for allowance of the distributor to come back. Hole requirements may not exceed eight inches in width and eight inches in length and must be covered by duct tape before entering the ring. No steel distributor plates will be allowed to protect the distributor.
FRAME: Frame and body mounts must remain in stock. No strengthening or weakening of rear body or frame. No solid welding of frame.
FUEL SYSTEM: Fuel lines must be proper CSA fuel line or high pressure neoprene black fuel line, CSA approved. No other fuel line will be permitted. Fuel line must go through the firewall below the glove box. No running fuel lines over the dash. Electric fuel pumps are permitted. A shut off switch must be within reach of the driver's dash and a secondary switch located on the outside above the driver's roof. MARKED IN RED MARKER.
GAS TANK: Stock gas tank must be removed from original position. A limited capacity three gallon custom metal tank or CSA approved gas tank or fuel cell fastened securely by BOLT & NUTS or STEEL STRAPS must be used. Gas tank must be covered with fire retardant material or floor mats. No plastic lines, jerry cans, ratchet straps or bungee cords will be used for securing gas tank. Gas tanks should be mounted where the back seat is located. No mounting gas tank in trunk area.
GLASS: All glass must be removed, including headlights, tailights, windshield and mirrors. All flammable material must be removed from vehicle except the dash and driver's seat - no exceptions.
HOOD, TRUNK AND HATCHBACK: Hood must remain on car at all times. Minimal size holes are permitted for exhaust pipes. Hood, trunk and hatchbacks must be tied down in four positions with two strands of coat hanger on each tie-down spot. No excessive wiring to strengthen the rad support to the bumper or hatch to the rear bumper. No welding permitted. All latches must be removed. A twelve inch hole in the hood is mandatory above the carburetor. Hinges must remain hooked up but with no springs. Leave hood and trunk open until inspection.
IGNITION: Ignition switches may be altered as long as key toggle switches replace on and off switches.
PROTECTIVE SCREEN: A protective bar or screen over driver's half of the windshield is mandatory.
RADIATOR OR COOLING SYSTEM: Radiator must be stock. Radiator must remain in front of the engine in the stock position or be removed altogether. No angling of the radiator or its brackets. The heater system may be bypassed. All antifreeze must be removed and replaced with water.
ROLL BARS: Four-cylinder only. A hoop style roll bar behind the driver's head is recommended. It should be constructed of steel tubing with 1.75 OD and be securely braced and fastened (bolted or welded to the frame). NO ROLL CAGES.
SEAT BELTS AND HELMETS: Seat belts and shoulder harnesses must be worn during competition. Seat belt must be secured to the frame. Helmets must be Snell 90 or newer.
SUN ROOFS: All vehicles equipped with sun roofs must have sun roofs covered up with steel plate. Plate must be fastened to the car with bolt & nuts only.
SUSPENSION: Vehicle must be factory soft. Shocks and coils must be stock. Springs with spacers, frozen or welded shocks and turned up torsion bars are illegal. No more than five leaf springs. Cars must sit at stock height. Suspension must be operational by one man's effort. No putting leaf springs in coil spring-equiped vehicles. All trailer hitches must be removed from vehicle.
TIRES (All classes): Tires must be street legal with low aggression tread. Maximum size is P235/70/15, P235/75/15. NO inner liners, liquid air filled tires, trailer tires or double tires are permitted. No welding objects on wheel to protect air stems. All wheel weights must be removed. Come with legal tires and wheels otherwise you will go home. No refunds. Upon dispute the final decision will be made by the official. No protest.
WELDING RULE: Strictly stock. No welding on vehicle except differential gears and roll bars.
